Food Truck Hop

So tonight I'm going to blog about my fave food trucks thanks to an idea from my best bud in the world, Lad!  So I decided tonight we would talk food trucks!

Chi'Lantro Korean BBQ is a Korean-Mexican fusion food truck, and they are pretty spectacular!  They are the originators of Kimchi Fries.  They have been featured on the Food Network, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel and many, many others.  They have THE BEST Kimchi Fries EVER.  I absolutely love them; I, of course cannot finish them and thankfully Chris helps me out.  I always order the Beef because, if I am not mistaken, this is the only meat on the menu that is not spicy; you HAVE to ask for the fried egg on it too because it adds a whole other dimension to the fries.  The fries have great tangy kimchi, sriracha, sesame seeds, onions, cheese and a special magic sauce OH WAIT and the fries are CRISPY!  This is a serious MUST try!

Another item I had was their Korean BBQ Bowl with the spicy chicken which I will admit was too spicy for me on a personal level but was still too damn good to not eat; even though, I paid for it later.  I know now to get the beef, lol.  This bowl has a yummy lime butter rice, soy vinaigrette salad, cilantro, onions, cheese, Chi'Lantro Salsa & sesame seeds.  Definitely very yummy & a must have.

Other items they have are quesadillas, burritos, tacos, burgers with bulgogi and now a ramen as well.  Oh and there is also one out in Austin if you're in that area as well!!  If you're in Houston & find them, tell 'em I sent ya!

My next food truck love is The Golden Grill which is grilled cheese heaven on wheels!  Forget plain old grilled cheese sandwiches: these are totally kicked up several notches.  They offer a wide variety including: a Carnitas that has roasted pork, apple jam, monterey jack cheese & arugula on sourdough; there's the Market with features local tomatoes, a fried egg, arugula & goat cheese on whole wheat; the Hamlin with has prosciutto, american cheese & jalapeño jam on sourdough bread; and there's even a KimCheese that features truck made kimchi, green onions, cheddar & a fried egg on whole wheat.  These are specialty sandwiches, and they also offer the classics which you can build your own, AND they have a sweet Smore sandwich as well.  OMG, I cannot forget to mention the amazing Tomato Bisque that has goat cheese crumbles and green onions on top; it is totally amazing and has lots of flavor!

My all-time fave is the Market to which sometimes I ask for bacon to be added and sometimes I ask for the bacon jam (trust me, this is great!).  I also like the Hamlin but with gouda instead of american cheese.  My other fave is the Carnitas when I'm feeling like a carnivore and I ALWAYS have to order the bisque! If you happen to find these guys, stop & tell 'em that I sent you!

Oh EATSIE BOYS how I love thee!  These guys are the bomb!  They started out with their food truck and now have a cafe on Montrose that made me very happy cuz now I can get to them better!  They have a really diverse little menu going on including pork snuggies which is crispy pork belly nestled inside a steamed bao bun with pickles, green onions & hoisin sauce.  The food truck has this amazing Lay It On Me Lamb Burger (Lamburgini) which features a beautifully seasoned lamb meat, a thick chunk of feta, cucumbers, mixed greens & a fried egg.  One of my fave breakfast items is their Eggman Chicken which features their homemade chicken poblano sausage.  They have THE BEST french toast in the world (it's not a permanent menu item so if you happen to be there when they have it, order it!)  Chris really likes their Bagel Plate with Smoked Salmon and we recently enjoyed their Chicken Tamales that had cilantro, avocado, queso fresco, crema & black beans - this was totally killer.  Plus Sara (she totally rocks) made me a couple of incredible vanilla lattes (they make their own vanilla syrup in house).  They also have Oinkcakes; yes, you heard it Oinkcakes! These are pancakes that are packed with bacon, and I promise you are the size of your head!  Also these guys make their ice cream too which includes  In 3s Vietnamese Coffee (my fave), Shipley's Dazed & Confused Donut, Brass Monkey Caramelized Banana & Sweet Corn Shazam just to name a few.  The weekends are super awesome because of their Trust Us Brunch which showcases several different rotating menu items which can include Disco Biscuits, Oinkcakes, Bagel Plate, Chicken Biscuits, Veggie Stratta and more! Should you be in the Montrose area, head on down & say Hi to Ryan, Matt & Sara and the rest of the gang and munch out on their nom-noms.

So now I get to talk about Buffalo Sean and his crepe stand Melange Creperie.  Sean's crepe stand is a Parisienne style creperie that is located in the Montrose area, almost always at the corner of Westheimer and Taft in the Mangoes parking lot.  The menu is ever changing with the season bringing on the best ingredients and there are always the regulars: Ham, Egg & Cheese & the Banana Nutella.  Sean is a character, so vibrant & full of life, charming, talkative and funny....quite the entertainer.  He is quick to let you know the number of crepes ahead of you and give you an ETA on it as well.  These are the best crepes around: they are light and crispy and always on point.  I absolutely loved when Sean offered gooseberry jam with Irish Butter; that was so simple and elegant and fantastic flavor profile.  Plus Sean makes an incredible Goat Cheese sauce from time to time which is amazing on the Ham, Egg & Cheese.  Go check out Melange Creperie and tell Sean I sent ya!

How is that I don't have a pic of my fave breakfast food truck BBAMobile!  This is upsetting to me, too; sorry Travis!  BBAMobile offers gourmet, hand-crafted breakfast with fresh, local ingredients.  You can find the posted up Mon-Sat mornings at Inversion Coffee House on Montrose.  They offer a nice selection of breakfast tacos, BYOBBA (Build Your Own Breakfast Burrito), Flapstix, the Nutty Frenchman, a Breakfast Melt and Breakfast Bowl.  I love the Jalapeño Hollandaise Sauce; it is killer and is not spicy at all but rocking with serious flavor.  If you like Nutella, order the Nutty Frenchman because it's a layered french toast with Nutella, roasted walnuts, flamBBa'd bananas & Blackburns Butter Pecan Syrup.  Want some great breakfast?  Stop by & see Travis & Jimmy and tell 'em I sent ya!

MONSTER PBJ is a peanut butter & jelly lover's dream come true!  They offer all-natural, house-made nut butters, local jams, fruits, breads, some vegan items and drinks.  Seriously, who doesn't like PBJ?  I am mostly addicted to their Almond Butter and almost always order my sammie with Almond Butter, Strawberry Jam, Bananas & Nutella on Wheat and extra grilled.  Grilled????  Heck, yes, it's the only way to go!!! It totally changes up your sammie for the better.  You can choose from three different sizes: junior, classic & monster; three different nut butters: peanut, cashew & almond; three different jams: apple, blueberry & strawberry (the jams come from Tomball from what Jake told me); three different fruits: banana, apples & strawberries and three different sweeteners: Nutella, agave and honey.  You can opt to have the crusts removed and opt for your style of cut: whole, cut in fours, diagonal or cut straight down the middle.  Seriously find Monster PBJ now because you just don't know what you're missing.  You can find them most of the time at the Menil on Alabama or the Contemporary Arts Museum on Montrose.  Oh yeah, and Jake & the guys like to tell corny little jokes so have one ready for them too!!!  Tell Jake I sent ya!

Cashew Butter, Blueberry Jam, Bananas & Nutella

The Waffle Bus is all about the waffle!  They offer savory sandwiches as well as sweet waffle sandwiches.  They even have waffle fryders.  This is crazy; but seriously the Chicken & Waffle Fryders are insanely killer!  You get these seasoned, kinda spicy waffle fries as the buns filled with buttermilk fried chicken; you get 4 to an order.  These little suckers are crazy good and have a really great sauce to them as well.  I also ordered the Nutella Banana which was, of course, awesome.  I don't get to them much cuz of my schedule; but if you find them, stop and check 'em out cuz they are really good.

MAGANDANG ARAW to Flip'n Patties!!  This is a great Filipino Food Truck, yes Filipino!  They offer Siopao, Chicken PuPu, Flipanada, burgers, fries & Fliproll.  These guys are the reason I am addicted to the "Crackrock" at Boomtown Coffee in the Heights; they are posted up here a lot!  Gotta love these guys, too.  I have had the Siopao and it is really, really good; they offer pork and chicken.  I told them that I wish they'd start selling pancit so fingers crossed cuz I love that stuff.  I can't get to them always either because of my schedule; but when I see them, I try to stop and get my Siopao!!  Love you guys!!

Siopao

Hot dogs anyone??  Look no further than GoodDog Houston.  They offer top quality dogs, and their condiments are preservative free and made from scratch.  The dogs are made in Texas and the buns from SloughDough Bread.  They have a unique selection of dogs including:  Ol' Zapata with bacon, muenster cheese, caramelized onions, tomatoes, jalapeño relish, Good Dog ketchup & mayonnaise; Guac-A-Dog with avocado, fresh jalapeño, tomatoes, diced onions, roasted garlic aioli, cilantro, cumin & lime; Chi-Town Dog with tomato slices, pickled peppers, dill pickle slices, Sweet Blakeslee Relish, Short Bus Mustard and celery salt on a poppy-seed bun just to name a few.  GoodDog also has this freakishly amazing Beer Cheese Soup; yup, you heard that right, Beer Cheese Soup!  It is cheesy, smokey, bacony and I think there are some potatoes in there; I never thought I would like the soup as much as I do; but it is superb!

Zapata & Sunshine Dogs

Stick It Food Truck is a food truck offering gourmet food on a stick or skewer.  They offer korean pork belly, buttermilk fried chicken and crispy fish just to name a few.  Ruth is super sweet and helpful.  I have only been lucky to stop 3 times but the pork belly was great and the crispy fish is my fave - it is crispy, light and tender.  If I see them again, I want my fish, Ruth!

I hope I haven't left any of my guys out, but I think I got all my fave peeps in here.  If you are leery of food trucks because of their past bad reps, get over it; this is a whole new world, a gourmet world with high standards in food and service.  I hope this helps as sort of a guide for you, and you are able to enjoy them as much as we do.

Until next time, Happy Eating!!
